RVA Delivery Wars: Competition Intensifies

The Richmond Times Dispatch recently reported that grocery consumer behavior has shifted and is increasingly demanding online shopping and delivery options. Grocers who are not offering these options are likely missing out on business, but the question remains if that segment is large enough to cause stores to update or diversify their shopping methods and delivery options. Below is a summary of what grocery stores in the Richmond market are doing or not doing to address the changes in customer behavior.

Of course, Amazon continues to attempt to reign supreme over the grocery market. With its purchase of Whole Foods in August 2017 and the recent Wall Street Journal report that Amazon is in the market to acquire grocery store chains, it too will ramp up the competition as the segment of the population that demands grocery delivery and online shopping options continues to grow. Stay tuned!
