Employers will have another year to plan for the health care mandate contained in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obama Care. The Obama administration will not require employers to provide health insurance for their workers until 2015, a change that delays a key provision of President Barack Obama's healthcare reform law by a year. Under Obama Care, Employers with 50 or more employees must provide affordable health coverage to their workers or pay a penalty. The mandate was scheduled to begin in 2014.
The Treasury Department is expected to issue formal guidance addressing the delay within a week. The department intends to publish the much awaited proposed rules regarding health coverage reporting requirements for employers and insurers during the summer of 2013.
