Robert J. Allen
Robert Allen focuses his practice on commercial litigation and dispute resolution, construction law and real estate transactions. He represents businesses and individuals in circuit courts throughout the state and serves as lead and local counsel in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia. He also has an appellate practice, having argued cases in the Virginia Supreme Court and the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition to ligation, Robert also enjoys advising landowners on conservation and estate planning strategies, including conservation easements and mitigation banking.
Robert earned his B.S. in City Planning from the University of Virginia School of Architecture in 1999 and his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2003. He is originally from Essex County, Virginia.

- Commercial litigation, particularly mortgage related litigation including repurchase and indemnity claims and fraud
- Commercial construction disputes and litigation in Virginia state and federal courts including surety bond claims

- Representation of a commercial laundry in state and federal court litigation challenging water and sewer rates imposed by a locality
- Representation of a developer in federal court litigation challenging a zoning ordinance under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and in a related criminal proceeding
- Zoning and land use litigation and appeals, including representation of a group of residents in a proceeding to challenge their standing to challenge a zoning decision. On appeal, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled in favor of the residents. Hale v. Bd. of Zoning Appeals, 277 Va. 250 (2009).
- Local counsel to a citizen group in a legal action against the Federal Highway Administration and Virginia Department of Transportation seeking an injunction against funding and construction of a portion of Interstate 73
- Alcoholic Beverage Control law, including representation of Virginia farm wineries and restaurant licensees and defense of enforcement actions
- Advising and representing individuals in a variety of legal matters, including personal injury, special education law and business formations
