John W. Anderson

John W. Anderson, head of Spotts Fain's Commercial Real Estate Group, is an attorney who listens to his clients and helps them find innovative legal solutions to achieve their business and financial goals.  A client once asked, "Am I your only client, John?"  John's clients have reason to feel that way, since responsiveness has been a hallmark of his professional career for over 30 years.  Representing Virginia businesses and individuals, John has the insight and knowledge it takes to see both the business and legal issues involved in his clients' matters. They call on him for assistance with commercial real estate transactions (lender counsel, purchases, sales, leasing and development and provides counsel regarding conservation easements, compliance with access provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act), tax-deferred exchanges, business acquisitions and dispositions and general corporate and business advice, including entity formation.  He is also a member of the Conservation Easements and Mitigation Banking Team.

Recent representative transactions include:

  • Assisted numerous community banks with workouts of multi-million dollar underperforming or non-performing loans

  • Represented borrower in a multi-million dollar SBA 7A loan transaction

  • Completed in-line lease and outparcel lease for shopping center owner involving two major regional retail tenants

  • Lender counsel on a multi-million dollar refinance transaction of a golf facility
