Agricultural Law

Robert H. Chappell, III  R. Lee Stephens, Jr.
Timothy G. Moore  Robert J. Allen

We have many many years of experience handling issues concerning agricultural law and agricultural lenders.  We represent input manufacturers, dealers and agricultural lenders in connection with a myriad of legal issues.  This representation includes regulatory and land use issues, collection of accounts receivable, litigation (including product liability defense), workouts and preparation of loan documents for both secured and unsecured financing.  Spotts Fain has extensive experience working with agricultural liens in Virginia and the issues involved in land title in rural areas.  In connection with this agricultural work, our attorneys have spoken to the Atlantic Agricultural Credit Conference, presenting Guide to Revised Article 9 - Changes in the Law of Secured Transactions and Selected Bankruptcy Issues.

Conservation Easements

The Commonwealth of Virginia has taken the lead in the nation, passing legislation that encourages the preservation of farm land.  To learn more about the legal aspects of conservation easements, an experienced attorney should be consulted. From its office in Irvington, Spotts Fain is conveniently located to serve farmers and other landowners and businesses located throughout the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula as well as throughout Virginia and is pleased to explain the conservation easement process and give you an idea of what it will take to protect your land forever.
