As most Americans watched in horror as the tragedy unfolded along the Gulf Coast of the United States, many asked what they could do to help the victims. Spotts Fain client Wawa, operator of over 500 food and gasoline stores, asked and answered that question, and in the process, they have collected just over $1 million dollars to aid those Americans who are now in desperate need of financial help to rebuild their lives and their communities. One of Wawa's founding principles is their commitment to the communities where they do business. The Wawa website notes, "Our company and our associates continuously seek out opportunities to make us the best neighbor we can be." Wawa partnered with NBC 10 (Wawa, Pa. television station) and the American Red Cross to accept donations at more than 540 store in five states. $1, $2 and $5 donation coupons were available at each location. Wawa then announced that they would make an additional $500,000 donation to bring the campaign's grand total to just over $1,500,000.
Lawyers and staff at Spotts Fain and Spotts Fain Consulting also wanted to help. The firm announced that it would match the lawyer and staff donations to disaster relief efforts and contribute the total matching donation to the Wawa fund. Spotts Fain is proud to represent the interests of corporate citizens such as Wawa and also proud of the lawyers, consultants and staff who worked together on this and other good causes in the community.
