July 2006 - Spotts Fain is pleased to announce that Stephen G. Reardon has been appointed by the Virginia Speaker of the House to serve as a member of the Commonwealth Council on Aging. His term runs from 2006 to 2010.

June 2006 - Spotts Fain Super Lawyers 2006 - Meade A. Spotts, Hugh M. Fain, III and Dana D. McDaniel named in inaugural issue of Virginia Super Lawyers.

April 29, 2006 - Again this year, Spotts Fain sponsored a team in the Richmond Arthritis Walk-Walk for a Cure. This year's walkers have raised over $80,000 to date. Congratulations to all who participated.

April 27, 2006 - Congratulation to Bryan G. Scott for passing the Virginia Bar Exam! Bryan is also licensed to practice in North Carolina.

September 2005 - Fundraising Efforts to Raise Money for Victims of Hurricane Katrina are a Huge Success.

September 2005 - Hugh M. Fain, III has been appointed to serve on the Task Force on the Public and The Courts of the Commission on Virginia Courts in the Twenty-First Century. He will also serve on the committee to make recommendations regarding the scope of public access to confidential information contained in court records.

September 2005 - R. Lee Stephens, Jr. has attained the status of Permanent Member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference.

Meade Spotts visited Beijing, Shanghai and Ningbo, China as a Delegate to the Commonwealth's China Trade Mission

2004

New officers of the Richmond Bar Association 2004-05 include Hugh M. Fain, III, Vice President. Mr. Fain previously served as Secretary-Treasurer.

May 1 - Spotts Fain Chappell & Anderson, P.C. is pleased to announce that effective May 1, 2004 it will continue its business, creditors’ rights and litigation practices under the abbreviated name of Spotts Fain PC. Firm leaders commented that the shortened name is the result of the firm’s steady growth over the years. Please see our news release for additional information.

Spotts Fain is proud to sponsor a Summer Intern with the E. Angus Powell Endowment for American Enterprise Summer Economic Institute. The mission of the endowment is to promote economic literacy among young people. The work portion of the program allows participating students to examine the principles of the American enterprise system first-hand.

We are very pleased to announce that Dana D. McDaniel has joined the firm as a Shareholder and Director. Mr. McDaniel was named Top Information Technology/Intellectual Property Lawyer in Virginia by Virginia Business magazine in Dec. 2000. He was a founding director of the Greater Richmond Intellectual Property Association and is active in national and state bar associations.

J. Thomas O'Brien, Jr. is President-Elect of the Metropolitan Richmond Habitat for Humanity.

John W. Anderson is the 2004 Chair of the Annual Giving Campaign for the Virginia Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.

2003

Meade A. Spotts, Hugh M. Fain, III and Robert H. Chappell, III were recognized by their peers as being among Virginia's 2003 Legal Elite.

In November, Erin Elizabeth Corbett joined the firm as an associate and will practice in the firm's Collections section. Ms. Corbett earned her B.B.A in Marketing with a supplemental major in Computer Applications from the University of Notre Dame in 2000. She earned her J.D. from the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 2003.

Brian Thomas Chase, a second-year student at the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, has accepted an offer to join our 2004 Summer Associate program.

In September, Maurice F. (Connell) Mullins, Jr. joined the firm as an associate. Mr. Mullins earned a B.A. in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia in 1997. In 2001, he received a J. D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. He served as a law clerk for the Honorable M. Langhorne Keith, Judge for the Circuit Court of Fairfax County from 2001-2002. He served as a law clerk to the Honorable Henry E. Hudson, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia, from 2002-2003.

One of SFCA's legal assistants, Kate Philpott, was accepted to University of Virginia School of Law and began her studies in August.

In June, SFCA sponsored its second Summer Economics Institute intern, Anna Almore, from the Powell Endowment at Collegiate School. Last year's Godwin High School intern, Stephanie Hassell, is returned to the firm for summer employment.

On April 18, 2003, Hugh Fain spoke at the Spring Conference of the International Management Accountants, Virginia Council. Mr. Fain's topic was Selected Issues in Human Resources: Military Leave Rights, The Americans with Disabilities Act and Restrictive Employment Covenants.

In April, Hugh Fain was nominated to serve as Secretary-Treasurer of the Richmond Bar Association for the 2003-04 Bar year. Mr. Fain has served on the Board of the Richmond Bar Association since 1999.

In April, the firm's Administrative Manager, Kimberly A. King, was elected President of the Richmond Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators.

In March, Harry Ware was elected to the Vestry of St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
