R. Lee Stephens, Jr. 

R. Lee Stephens, Jr. is the resident shareholder at Spotts Fain's Irvington Office. Mr. Stephens served as General Counsel to The Tides Inn, a nationally-acclaimed resort, and then as President of the resort. His law practice concentrates on business, commercial real estate transactions and estate planning. His consulting practice focuses on government relations and economic development.

Mr. Stephens received a B.A in English from the University of Virginia in 1979. From 1979 to 1984 he served as a destroyer officer in the United States Navy, and continued to serve in the Intelligence community of the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1992. Mr. Stephens earned his J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary in 1987.

Mr. Stephens is a director of the Northern Neck Insurance Co. In 2005, he was appointed by Governor Warner to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Virginia 's Natural Resources, and in 2006 he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Board. He has served as chair of the Resort Hotel Association. He is an active member of the Virginia Bar Association, and in 2006 he was appointed to the Council of the VBA Environment, Natural Resources and Energy Law Section. He is also actively involved with many non-profit organizations in Virginia , such as the Northern Neck Land Conservancy, where he currently serves as a member of the board of directors.
