John W. Anderson

John W. Anderson, head of Spotts Fain's Commercial Real Estate Group, is an attorney who listens to his clients and helps them find innovative legal solutions to achieve their business and financial goals.  Recently, a client asked, "Am I your only client, John?"  John's clients have reason to feel that way, since responsiveness has been a hallmark of his professional career for over 30 years.  Representing Virginia businesses and individuals, John has the insight and knowledge it takes to see both the business and legal issues involved in his clients' matters. They call on him for assistance with commercial real estate transactions (lender counsel, purchases, sales, leasing and development and provides counsel regarding compliance with access provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act), tax-deferred exchanges, business acquisitions and dispositions and general corporate and business advice, including entity formation.

He is a member of the Virginia State Bar Business, Construction and Real Property Sections and the Virginia Bar Association Business Law and Real Estate Sections. John is also a member of the Richmond Bar Association Real Estate Section (where he serves on the Executive Committee and is Chair-Elect) and the RBA Business Law Section (where he serves on the Executive Committee and is Immediate Past Chair of the section).

John was born in Richmond and raised in Halifax County, Virginia. He and his family reside in Richmond and are active in the Richmond community. He served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation for many years and was Chair of the 2004 Annual Giving Campaign. Because of his work with the Virginia Chapter and the Richmond community, John was presented with the 2006 W. Robert Irby, MD Award for Volunteer Leadership. John serves on the Parish Finance Council for The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, where he and his family attend Mass. He has served as the Chairperson of the Richmond Advisory Board of First Community Bank. He is legal counsel for the West Richmond Businessmen's Association and to the Virginia Association of Roofing Professionals.
